  74.            1.0  Introduction
  75.
  76.            Welcome to CO/SESSION remote communications!  This
  77.            document describes how to operate the CO/SESSION
  78.            demonstration functions.
  79.
  80.
  81.            CO/SESSION is a flexible and powerful remote
  82.            communications and control package.  Remote access,
  83.            control, support, diagnosis, training, and
  84.            demonstrations from your computer, to another computer
  85.            located elsewhere are possible now with CO/SESSION.
  86.            CO/SESSION links two IBM PC/AT/XTs or compatible
  87.            computers so they operate as one. What you type at
  88.            your computer will be displayed on the remote
  89.            computer. You can run any program that you could run
  90.            at the remote computer, from your local computer as
  91.            easily as if you were sitting at the remote computer.
  92.
  93.
  94.            CO/SESSION operates transparently.  In other words, it
  95.            operates in the background with most programs. When
  96.            you wish to use any of CO/SESSION's extended functions
  97.            you only need to press the appropriate FUNCTION keys.
  98.            Security mechanisms in CO/SESSION protect your
  99.            computer from unauthorized access.
  100.
  101.
  102.
  103.            1.1  Typical CO/SESSION Uses
  104.
  105.            CO/SESSION brings you power and flexibility for:
  106.
  107.
  108.            Customer Support
  109.
  110.            Link your SUPPORT computer to an APPLICATION computer
  111.            and give your customers hands-on support without
  112.            leaving your office.
  113.
  114.            New support options are available now.  Software
  115.            manufacturers, VARs, and support personnel, boost your
  116.            support capability with CO/SESSION.
  117.
  118. è
  119.            Training
  120.
  121.            Teach your customers anywhere in the country with
  122.            CO/SESSION's dual control capability.
  123.
  124.
  125.            Sales Demonstrations
  126.
  127.            Demonstrate software from your office with
  128.            CO/SESSION's monitoring function.  CO/SESSION enhances
  129.            the business call with pictures.
  130.
  131.
  132.            Consulting
  133.
  134.            You can be more productive for your clients by
  135.            spending more time applying your consulting expertise
  136.            and assistance instead of wasting time commuting.
  137.
  138.
  139.            Joint Problem Solving
  140.
  141.            Combine your talents with associates and clients
  142.            anywhere in the country. CO/SESSION's file transfer
  143.            functions and enhanced printing options let you and
  144.            your colleagues modify or print the same file
  145.            simultaneously.
  146.
  147.
  148.            Remote Access
  149.
  150.            Access your office computer from your home with
  151.            CO/SESSIONS remote control capability.  Let CO/SESSION
  152.            commute for you.
  153.
  154.
  155.
  156.            1.2  Demonstration Version
  157.
  158.            The CO/SESSION demonstration version is essentially the
  159.            same as the regular, full-featured CO/SESSION version.
  160.            Refer to the READ-ME file on the CO/SESSION diskette for
  161.            the demonstration version restrictions.

  164.
  165.            1.3  Document Organization
  166.
  167.            Section 2 presents a more detailed overview of
  168.            CO/SESSION.  Section 3 is a step by step tutorial. It
  169.            describes how to install CO/SESSION and get started
  170.            using CO/SESSION.  The Appendices include a summary
  171.            overview of the CO/SESSION function menu organization.

  174.
  175.            2.0  CO/SESSION Features And Functions Overview
  176.
  177.            This Section describes CO/SESSION's monitoring
  178.            capability, functions and features.
  179.
  180.
  181.
  182.            2.1  Basic CO/SESSION Operation
  183.
  184.            CO/SESSION links two computers so that PC-DOS/MS-DOS
  185.            programs running on one computer are mirrored on the
  186.            other.  The computer which is running the program is
  187.            called the APPLICATION computer.  The computer which
  188.            is mirroring the APPLICATION computer is called the
  189.            SUPPORT computer.  See FIGURE 2-1 for an overview of
  190.            these definitions.
  191.
  192.
  193.            The SUPPORT computer displays the same screen as the
  194.            APPLICATION computer.  As a result, you and the
  195.            SUPPORT user will see the same thing on your computer
  196.            screens. You can run a program from the SUPPORT
  197.            computer on the APPLICATION computer as well. The
  198.            APPLICATION computer accepts what you type at the
  199.            SUPPORT computer as if you were typing at the
  200.            APPLICATION computer. Therefore, the  CO/SESSION
  201.            APPLICATION computer is dually controlled like an
  202.            airplane used in flight training.
  203.
  204.
  205.            The SUPPORT computer can be distant from the
  206.            APPLICATION computer but the computers must be
  207.            connected via Hayes(tm) or compatible modems, or a
  208.            hardwired line.
  209.
  210.
  211.            CO/SESSION supports full text and interactive graphics
  212.            with the Monochrome Display Adapter (MDA) or Color
  213.            Graphics Adapter (CGA), and the Enhanced Graphics
  214.            Adapter (EGA) in the CGA or MDA modes.

  277.            you assign a Call ID, telephone number, login ID and
  278.            password, and baud-rate.  These Call ID parameters are
  279.            saved in a Call ID directory file. You can modify this
  280.            file to suit your needs. You can make connections with
  281.            a specific computer or set your computer to wait for a
  282.            connection request from any computer in the  auto-

1244.             compatible modems.  In addition, CO/SESSION will
  1245.             support direct hardwired connections.
  1246.
  1247.
  1248.             CO/SESSION is intended for IBM-PC, IBM-XT, IBM-AT,
  1249.             or IBM work-like machines executing PC-DOS/MS-DOS
  1250.             2.x/3.x.
  1251.
  1252.
1253.            The CO/SESSION SUPPORT version requires about 120K
1254.            bytes of memory, whereas the APPLICATION Only version
1255.            requires about 75K bytes of memory.  In addition,
1256.            CO/SESSION uses the disk drive and directory that was
1257.            specified when CO/SESSION was installed, to store

  1263.
  1264.             3.7  Restrictions And Limitations
  1265.
1266.             CO/SESSION is implemented in such a way as to
1267.             handle most DOS programs.  However, when CO/SESSION
1268.             is activated it sets up several of the system
1269.             software and hardware interrupt vectors to access
1270.             its own routines.  If any program uses the same
1271.             vectors in an incompatible manner then use of
1272.             CO/SESSION will not be available for those programs.
  1273.
  1274.
1275.             The MS-DOS/PC-DOS operating system is not designed to
1276.             allow two programs to share its facilities at the
1277.             same time. If you invoke CO/SESSION when DOS is in
1278.             use elsewhere, you must wait until DOS is free before
1279.             CO/SESSION can use those facilities.  A message will
1280.             inform you to exit DOS and complete what you were
  1281.             doing.
